PASER RINGING IN THE CANYON OF THE SPRING

On May 29 evening and next day morning we were ringed Carraixet and the truth is that for me it was a surprise remarkable productivity that was.

For anyone who has not ever been Carraixet ravine is a promenade that formerly was completely wild and one time now has been channeled artificially.

The part that is being regenerated as an ecosystem is about three miles long, the closest to its mouth, and just 50 m. wide.

currently Banding Study Group and the Lagoon has a banding station PASER of Raul Vera that is responsible and who are getting great results.

banding activity carried out on 29 and 30 lasted only 6 hours 19:00 to 22:00 pm on 29 and from 7:00 to 10:00 am on 30 and the results were as follows:

By species and numbers caught:
    Acrocephalus
  • scirpaceus 3
  • Carduelis carduelis 3
  • Cettia Cetti 1
  • Turdus merula 3
  • Serinus Serinus 2
  • Hirundo rustica 3
  • Paser domesticus 1
  • Riparia riparia 1
  • Cisticola juncidis 1
  • Hippolais polyglot 2
  • Muscicapa striata 1
  • Sylvia melanocephala 1
  • 8 Parus major
  • Luscinia
  • megarhynchos 1

Total catch: 31

Total number of species: 14

We will try to gradually develop a table with the number of species appearing and Index Simpson Diversity Index see how it evolves as it catches happen. So far: I = 0.88

Carraixet: EXPLOSION OF LIFE! NATURAL PARK

spring, flowers bloom, the whole field fills with the smell, the rice begins to turn green in the lagoon, and it's time to re- given life cycle. ohh how nice!
The truth is that it is a key period for all living beings and the case of birds could not be otherwise. During the months of January February and March, most birds are prepared for these dates as mentioned putting on their gowns, they shed their feathers and bridal designs changed to help them to find a female to procreate and to engender life. I have to say that the time has come. During the months of May, June and July the pond, everywhere you look, is an explosion of life is the time of hatching and everything is hustle and bustle. Breeding colonies are formed where parents can be tireless incubating their eggs and protecting them from attacks by their neighbors. constantly shifting sea in search of fingerlings for their chickens ... both terns and gulls are mixed breeding colonies that increase the number of individuals in these for a better defense against attack by predators.
's career life goes fast, just a week ago most of the colonies were incubating their spawn while last weekend and had a large number of small balls of fluff opening their huge mouths in order to grow as fast as possible. I'm curious to know what you'll find me this weekend.
I have to say I am pleased to note that the number of pairs of Common Tern (Sterna hirundo ) is similar to other years as partners of black-headed gulls (Larus ridibundus ) picofina Gull (Larus geneii ) and Gulls (Larus melanocephalus ) is slightly increasing every year, is also the case Tern patinegro ( Sterna sandvicensis ) y de la pagaza piconegra ( Gelochelidon nilotica ) que cada año escogen en mayor número la reserva del Racó de L'Olla como lugar de nidificación.

Remove Semen Stains From Hardwood Floor

TURIA. BEGIN TALAS. 5 JUNE

En el año 2007 by Decree 43/2007 of 13 April nacia Consell del Turia Natural Park. Supposed a respite from the serious threats to urban development was submitted in that period, plus all kinds of attacks such as littering, filth, threats of fire and he finally seemed to have the expiration date.

Nothing is further from reality, the declaration of the Park has led to the invasion of quiet space far from shore. It has opened a huge gap in the road as cement for use and enjoyment of citizens.
The incessant movement of bicycles, people screaming, horses that trace different tour routes the same way and as I found it 20 days until quads have become part of this space in a challenge to that part of the wildlife that uses the Turia river habitat.

is therefore not surprising to hear now the laughter of the green woodpecker (Picus viridis) in the areas surrounding the park or run into a wild boar in the fields of carob and pine forest near Aguas de Valencia urbanization Dam. And is that part of the fauna and especially those species most sensitive to human activity has left the bank for environmental restoration work. Hopefully, unless conditions are to return shortly.

But undoubtedly one of the most worrisome threat lies in logging utilities that start at this time of year (curiously bird breeding season). I refer to
Turia PORN Chapter II-section 2nd. Art.50 pto2. " interventions on forests be made between the months of August to February inclusive to avoid disturbing the bird communities . Exceptionally these dates may be changed by the Ministry competent for the environment if there are justifiable reasons and affection is found the species not considered particularly sensitive . "
These talas are the peculiar fire plan for summer 2009 with who gave us the power and consist of nothing more nor less than to clean up the mass of trees located under power lines.
If we think that much of the forest area is structured by power lines and that the extent of this forest of Vallesa is quite small which may be can imagine the impact.

The explanation given is very simple, "to reduce the risk of forest fires, and is a declaration of intentions (I think they will not cut down the pines and then remove the lines as originally intended .)

power lines through the forest. Valencia La Vella.

Paradoxically has been following the declaration of the Park that theoretically protects the forest of Vallesa when utilities have initiated such logging in it (just have to look at many of the pines are felling are adults, then passed by there in years and worried).
pressures diverted or received for these lines buried by the danger posed to the integrity of the Park and the fear of losing that status has made them invasive tilt in a hurry in other option certainly much faster, cheaper but extremely aggressive as logging invoking a decree of 1968.
These tasks include naturally with the opposition of neighborhood associations, environmental groups, the Coalition for the Defense of the forests of Turia and the City of Paterson, which requires municipal utilities authority.
hope that sanity prevails in the end and to reach a solution that satisfies everyone but above all be respectful and allow us to continue to enjoy in its entirety of one of the most amazing and beautiful places to be found only a little bit of home.

"BIRDS LIVE AND DIRECT" NEW SEO PROPOSAL

SEO The new initiative has come to Valencia. It is an approach of birds to the public interest and that has some social consciousness around the importance of conservation and protection of birds and ecosystems.

It was proposed from Madrid performing ADL activities (Bird Live and Direct), the activity was carried out for the first time in Monfragüe National Park, where volunteers present at the famous SEO "Salto the Gypsy " the opportunity for stakeholders, to approach and learn the hands of people understood the biology and ecology of bird species are found there. This is the case of the Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus ), huge black vulture ( Aegypius monachus), or the majestic Eagle Bonelli ( Hieraaetus fasciatus).

as Sergio Volunteers teach visitors to the park to locate those little tricks of species and recognition at a distance, through telescopes and binoculars that have yielded optical marks leading to the implementation of these activities.

These activities ADL have come to Valencia, the Albufera particular have the opportunity to present this dynamic visitors who come to the center of interpretation that exists in the Raco de L'Olla.

Interested parties who attend will enjoy the opportunity to observe closely the life cycle and reproduction of marine species such as gulls and terns, as well as typical species of marsh ecosystem such as the moorhen or the Stilt and of course a variety of ducks.

Led by expert guides will have the opportunity to get much closer to the exciting world of birds and learn details about their lifestyle.

Observation of different structures where each species nesting, hatching eggs, chickens birth, progeny of each species, food and daily migrations, competition for space, care of offspring and a lot of details in the world birds can be discovered by visitors who arrive at the interpretation.

Visitor Interpretation Centre Raco de L'Olla in a bird observatory in activity "Birds in Live and Direct."

Bird Live and Direct will be in Valencia, in the center of interpretation of Raco de L'Olla from the weekend of May 15 until July 15 to coincide with the breeding season for all species. The activity is free and will be held every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00.

Flem Before Menstruation

WHISTLES IN FISH

As mentioned in previous posts, the study group and rings PASER Albufera has a station in the park where people Viveros banding group sessions conducted once a week. Well, last Wednesday May 6 during the day that PASER was done, I was lucky to run into a meeting at all expected.
always have the hope of finding some surprises y. .. from time to time "whistles" the flute. There are already some surprises we've been lucky enough to find in just 4 days of season. This is the case of a parrot Argentina ( Myiopsitta monachus) passing by one day, and the spectacular male Redstart (Phoenicurus Phoenicurus ) Javi could banding in the same season. Both species, although less abundant, are common in nursery gardens at this time.

Anillamiento de Cotorra Argentina (Myiopsitta monachus).

Macho Redstart (Phoenicurus Phoenicurus) in breeding plumage.

The present case is the rare Whistling Warbler (Phylloscopus sibilatrix ), this small passerine nests in the forests of central Europe (France, Germany, Holland, Switzerland ...) usually occupies deciduous forest but when the temperature begins to decline beginning their migration.
What does this mean? Since there is always at the same place. every year makes two big trips in order to escape the cold. When summer arrives the fly singer travels to Europe where he finds the right places to breed and at the end of the summer season makes the trip in the opposite direction to the south. Oddly enough, this bird, only 12 cm. length is a trans-Saharan migratory and wintering in African equatorial forest. Countries such as Guinea, Nigeria and Congo are home to fly whistling at this time.
The status of this species in Spain is limited, in fact only a few pairs of P. sibilatrix Now playing in forests of the Pyrenees and Picos de Europa, reproduction by Whistling Warbler both in our country is almost anecdotal, HOWEVER every year can find an example in their migratory journey, especially in the spring passage way to Europe.
In our case we were lucky to find a copy that is going a little late to play and that was good enough to make a stop on the road in the Jardines de Viveros to give us the opportunity to observe.
Warbler (Phylloscopus sibilatrix).

Road to Europe will wear a ring that marked and, if good you will fall in any other ring networks in the world to let us know your biology data more accurately which are exactly as their migration routes and which are the places where you spend the winter.

SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM OF ALBUFERA: mop the floor! BIRDS and boasts

news was published yesterday in the Journal of the provinces concerning the Albufera I could not resist commenting. The news, which made headlines, alluded to the cleaning of the perimeter of Lake Albufera. Obviously

we all rejoice that initiatives like this go ahead by the city of Valencia, in fact I hope that initiatives like this were enacted more assiduously to care for and maintain all places of Valencia with a high ecological value environment such as the Natural Park which we refer.

just wanted to mention a small detail, as I say, the measure has been taken is commendable, but in my humble point of view clearly insufficient. Everyone who knows a little about the situation of the Albufera is aware of the serious problem you have. La Albufera, although we do not like hearing it, is sick. The lake has lost in the last century much of the biodiversity that existed in many of the faunal and plant communities have been severely depleted and this is due to the state of eutrophication of the lake.

I explain here, for those unfamiliar with the term "eutrophication", basically, what happens to the waters of the lake is to have high organic matter inputs and this has serious ecological consequences in the ecosystem.

The high organic matter inputs such as chemicals nitrates and phosphates from agriculture support the growth of bacteria and unicellular algae that are developed to remove oxygen from the environment in which they live and to bring that murky color, which in turn prevents the passage of light, so necessary for macrophytes develop that form the basis of many food webs should be given into the lagoon.

This species have been lost some time there in the lake, is the notorious case of Fartet (Aphanius ibericus ) and Samaruc ( Valentia hispanica) or bird species already mentioned as the case of Whiskered Tern ( Chlidonias hybrida) or the mustached ( Panurus biarmicus ) with a large decline in their populations to the point of almost disappearing from the Natural Park.

I say, that the measure, in my view, is clearly insufficient. Look at it this way: suppose we have a failure at home and located a leak that is flooding our house and how far we can think of cleaning the floor. Solution? ... Obviously not. Basically this is what is being proposed from the City Council, I reiterate that these actions are always welcome but ... Did you ever have walked the periphery of the lake readers? If so be noted that, systematically, every weekend, in the maze of canals and waterways that touch the lake, proliferate, which plague, a crowd of fishermen, from all countries and nationalities and mostly unlicensed engaged remove the little that survives in the lake. In this situation the Guardia Civil and Local Police are unfortunately, in many cases turned a blind eye y. .. Would not happen to have returned to these same readers ditches after a few days there?

fact, every weekend the Albufera just turned into a big trash water where you can find plenty of objects. From tins and cans to drums and even shoes on the banks of these canals and floating in the water.
A very sad picture that I think will be difficult to remove with a passenger simple facelift.

Suffice to confirm the inefficacy of the measure is another story published on July 30, 2008. Less than a year!
http://www.ecoticias.com/20080730-medio-ambiente-recoge-en-lalbufera-valencia-910-m3-de-residuos-flotantes-en-lo-que-va-de-ano.html

solution? certainly complex and not immediate, greater social awareness work Gentlemen, this is a NATURAL PARK!. Greater control of activities carried out around the Albufera and the imposition of sanctions. Information dissemination and ecological wealth is to have the Park .. y. course plans and projects that will ultimately lead to the Albufera return to what it was, a freshwater coastal lake with a high value ecological wealth.

subención Promotion and organic rice especially in the vicinity of Lake aproteic avoiding the waste and pesticides derived from agricultural activity, thorough control of wastewater from industries and municipalities in the periphery of the lake, treatment and purification these waters and recovery of lost ecosystems, such as marshes in good condition and as ullals (of which we'll talk some other day).

in this direction is working from the Ministry of Environment with the ambitious Water Project in the province of Valencia affect in a direct way to the Natural Park of La Albufera.
http://www.programaaguaalbufera.es/

Hopefully, little by little social awareness and above all politicians directly affect the improvement in biological quality of the Albufera.

35 Watt Recessed Light

!

Who said that the arrangement was only a matter of the human species? Is it only the man who seeks strutting around girls?, Are we the only kids we like to "fix" to win the girls?

Nothing is further from reality in the world of birds is also the most handsome boy is the most league. Unfortunately for us, the ugly, the success with girls, oddly enough, is a matter of nothing less than Natural Selection, namely Selection Sexual.
Most of the "decisions" taken significant in nature have to do, how could it be otherwise, with sex.
Females of all species, including humans, seek, unconsciously, and although many readers it hurts, leave more offspring as possible. And those who intend to act otherwise be going against the designs of nature.
Guided by an instinct that is determined by genes, and therefore, is handed down from generation to generation, the female their genes is not lost on the population and the continued existence in the next generation.
This at first glance may seem rather cold and simpleton is the basic rule of "survival of the fittest" which enunciated the biological father of Charles Darwin.

fact is the nature of all species that their genes try to endure and, therefore, females have a biological need to choose a male that is able to provide the best selection of genes that, combined with yours, can leave most offspring.

ugly man, pathetic animal, tries to trick the female, trying to disguise these genes mediocre, and decked out to party to try to disguise their shortcomings, as in biology, health and ability to leave offspring are closely related to the appearance.

In the world of birds, how could it be otherwise, is exactly the same as in man. Individuals who submit the most striking features, namely those that are bigger, stronger, have more brilliant colors or higher will sing those lucky enough to be chosen by females for procreate, y. .. make no mistake, we love the male reproductive!
So there is a strong selection pressure in nature as it slowly moves the focus by females, generation after generation, those more colorful males.

Because of this, I explain to new readers in the art that most bird species change some or all of their feathers before playing in order to "spruce up" to girls and try to conquer.
In the world of birds we can find numerous examples of this:

mallard (Anas platyrhynchos ) winters with inconspicuous brown plumage, HOWEVER, in summer dresses up with a most striking plumage.

The Little Egret (Egretta garzetta ) adopts special bridal feathers whose sole function is to impress females.
is famous procession of the Great Bustard (Otis tarda )

And the world of small passerine birds is no exception. The Bluethroat (Luscinia svecica ) adopts a blanket of spectacular blue tone during courtship.

In short, the behavior of the male, regardless of the species as we can see, is governor of biological laws, so ... women on earth, not judge our actions. Are the fruits of our nature!

PROGRAM PASER "AND THE STUDY OF THE BREEDING BIRDS

From CMA (Bird Migration Centre) and supported by SEO / BirdLife, carried out an ambitious project in terms of participation referred to throughout the English territory. Thus, ringers all over the country are part voluntarily in this project by banding efforts during the breeding season of birds from mid-April to mid July.

The task of these volunteers is to set points or banding stations where they do this work regularly. These visits should be as similar as possible in terms of time invested and nets set, so you can compare the number of rings from a visit to another and that these variations in the rings can be attributed to cycles biological birds and not to changes in the methodology carried out by the bander.

Banding a Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis)

is therefore studying the breeding bird populations, the density of individuals of each population, the dates during which lengthens the breeding of chickens and the number of chickens observed compared with adults (the scientific term is productivity).

The study group and banding L'Albufera to which I belong as part of this ambitious project to work with 3 stations scattered throughout the ciuidad PASER valence and its environment.

  • PASER Station "The Carraixet." Barranco del Carraixet (Alboraya). Raul Vera. http://birdingcarraixet.blogspot.es/
  • PASER Station "The Ratlla." Natural Reserve of La Ratlla, La Albufera. (Valencia). Javier García Gans.
  • PASER Station "nurseries." Jardines de Viveros. (Valencia). Salvador Javier García Gans and Thomas. http://avesdelaalbufera.bolgspot.es/
banding group plans to introduce next year at least 2 more seasons PASER:
  • PASER Station "Dam." Urbanización La Presa. (Manises). Julian Puchades.
  • PASER Station "Pipe." Natural Reserve of La Pipa. (Catarroja). SEO Ardea.
Hopefully these scientific studies linked to plans and projects for conservation and environmental education contribute to better understanding and protection of our birds.

Whiskered Tern nesting in Albufera

Today SEO Ardea group we gathered in the composition of the pipe tancat (Catarroja) with a common goal, to try to help the colony Black Tern (Chlidonias niger) and of Whiskered Tern (Chlidonias hybridus ) feeding in the lagoons of this tancat to establish their breeding colony on it.

These birds, fishers need the right medium in which to establish their floating nests, thus seeking structures floating algae or aquatic plants to establish the locations of their future nests made with remains of plant material. Thus the whiskered place to their young away from potential predators.

floating Nido Whiskered Tern (Chlidonias hybridus) in marsh.

Thus the proposal that has been released from the local group has been developing SEO Ardea floating structures made of natural materials such as reeds and rushes that have been fixed to the floor to prevent drift of the structures.
Thanks to the selfless work of people like Mario, Javier, Julian, Lucy, Dulcinea, Mr. Llorens and myself have tried to contribute a bit in the regeneration of this wetland that will hopefully help the survival and growth of populations of birds that inhabit the lagoon or use the ecosystem as a stop on their migrations.
